Jo Asker is a prolific performer in the Colorado music scene. His bass playing sits comfortably in a diverse array of settings as a sideman or featured artist, and adds a characteristic sound to any ensemble he’s with. Jo plays with jazz, bluegrass, funk, and eclectic bands regularly. Violet Pilot, Dave and the Gin Mill Gypsies, Trevor Michael and the Mountain Valley Collective, Buck Wilde, the Jasper Grooves Collective, Big Brooklyn, the Just Jazz Quintet, and the Twirling Zucchinis are a few of the groups he can be found with often. He has also performed with the Fort Collins Symphony, Wyoming Symphony, Washington-Idaho Symphony, and several other established orchestras and chamber groups. A wide variety of musical aptitudes has forged a unique artistic voice that shapes his playing and enhances the music of any group he’s with. His compositions cover a wide selection of genres as well, but within each one his unique aesthetic can be heard. Jo has taught bass and cello at Casper College, and Front Range Community College - Larimer Campus, as well as maintaining a small private studio. He holds a B.M. from the University of Idaho, and a M.M. from Colorado State University.
